Teens once pointed VHS camcorders at their friends in the backyard, their sister’s hot friends, and the Sears Catalog living room set, thinking, “oh my god I need ketchup.” They were latchkey kids raised on Fangoria and Freddy Krueger, drunk on the dream of being the next Tom Savini. Moms’ kitchens became unhinged labs, Heinz flowed from cinematic open wounds, makeshift dollies were jerry-rigged from skateboards and masking tape, and countless cousins were attacked by dolls in the role of Chucky.
This compilation, episode 13 of 50 from 2020, dives into these SOV masterpieces that provide a glimpse into the raw subconscious of suburban youth. Long before experimentation was flattened into content for the panopticon, there was a teenager with a camcorder and a bottle of ketchup. Enjoy!

I did not expect this to start with the horror classic “My Leg.”
